How to Post a Task and Get Better Results

By TaskStation Team · Published July 2026

Write task descriptions that attract the best local taskers and get your job done right the first time.

Your Task Description Is Your First Impression

When you post a task on TaskStation, the description you write is the first thing taskers see. A vague, one-line description like "Need help with garden" tells taskers almost nothing. A clear, detailed description like "Need hedge trimming and lawn mow in SE15 — hedges about 2m tall, rear garden roughly 8m x 6m" gives them exactly what they need to decide if the job suits them.

The quality of your description directly affects the quality of the taskers who apply. Good taskers are busy people — they scan listings quickly and move on to the next one if yours does not give them enough information. Here is how to write a task that attracts the right people.

Be Specific About What You Need

The most common mistake posters make is being too vague. "Need a cleaner" could mean anything from wiping down kitchen surfaces to a full end-of-tenancy deep clean of a five-bedroom house. Each of those tasks requires a very different skill set and will cost wildly different amounts.

Instead, describe the actual work in plain terms. For a cleaning task, you might write: "Weekly clean of a two-bedroom flat in Balham. Kitchen, bathroom, living room, and two bedrooms. Vacuuming, mopping, surface cleaning, and bathroom sanitising. Approximately 2 to 3 hours per visit."

For a handyman task: "Need someone to fix a dripping kitchen tap, re-hang a bedroom door that has come off its hinges, and mount a TV bracket on a plasterboard wall in the living room. I have the TV bracket already."

The more detail you provide, the more accurate the quotes you receive, and the less likely you are to face surprise costs or disagreements later.

Set a Realistic Budget

Setting a budget is one of the most important parts of posting a task, and also one of the most commonly misjudged. Setting your budget too low will deter experienced taskers, who know their worth and will simply skip listings that undervalue their time.

If you are unsure what a task should cost, browse similar completed tasks on TaskStation to see what others have paid, or check rate guides for your area. It is perfectly acceptable to set your budget as "Price TBD" and discuss rates with applicants — but be aware that some taskers will not apply to tasks without a listed budget.

A realistic budget shows taskers that you respect their time and are serious about getting the work done. This attracts professionals rather than bargain-hunters who may cut corners.

Include Your Location

TaskStation uses postcode-based search, so taskers in your area will already see your task. But including your postcode or general area in the description itself is still helpful. It saves taskers from having to click through to see where the job is, and it helps them estimate travel time and costs.

You do not need to share your exact address in the initial listing — that can be shared once you accept a tasker. A postcode or neighbourhood is sufficient for the listing.

Set the Right Category and Skill

Choosing the correct category for your task ensures it reaches the right taskers. If you need your lawn mowed, do not post it under "Digital and Tech." If you need help painting a room, do not list it under "Errands and Services."

TaskStation's categories are designed to match taskers with relevant work. Taking ten seconds to select the right one can make the difference between getting three relevant applications and getting none.

Be equally careful with the skill field. If your task requires a specific skill — plumbing, electrical work, music tutoring — mention it. This helps taskers with that specialism find your task quickly.

Mention Any Special Requirements

Some jobs have requirements that are not immediately obvious from the category or title. Mention these upfront to save time for everyone:

  • Equipment: "You will need your own lawnmower — I do not have one."
  • Materials: "I have already bought the paint and brushes."
  • Access: "The back gate is unlocked, but you will need to come through the side alley."
  • Parking: "There is free parking on the street outside."
  • Pets: "I have a friendly dog — let me know if this is an issue."
  • Timing restrictions: "Can only do weekdays before 2pm."

These details may seem minor, but they help taskers decide if the job works for them before they apply, which means you get fewer unsuitable applications and better matches overall.

Mark Urgent Tasks When Appropriate

If you need help quickly — a burst pipe, an urgent lock change, or a same-day cleaning job before guests arrive — mark your task as urgent. Urgent tasks are highlighted on the board and attract the attention of taskers who are available at short notice.

However, do not mark every task as urgent if it is not genuinely time-sensitive. Taskers prioritise urgent listings, and overusing the feature dilutes its effectiveness. Save it for when you truly need a fast response.

Respond Quickly to Applications

When taskers apply to your task, they are also looking at other tasks and potentially other posters. If you take three days to respond to an application, the tasker may have already accepted a job elsewhere.

Aim to respond within a few hours of receiving applications. Even a brief "Thanks for applying — I will review and get back to you tonight" keeps the tasker engaged and shows you are actively managing your task.

When you are ready to accept, confirm the details one more time in the chat. This creates a written record of what was agreed, which helps prevent misunderstandings later.

After the Task: Leave a Review

Once the task is complete, take a moment to leave a review. This is not just a courtesy — it is how the TaskStation community maintains its quality. Good reviews reward good work and help future posters make better decisions.

If the work was not up to standard, mention the specific issues in your review rather than simply leaving a low rating. This gives the tasker constructive feedback and gives future posters the full picture.

Quick Checklist for a Great Task Post

  • Detailed description of the work involved
  • Realistic budget or "Price TBD"
  • Correct category and skill selected
  • Postcode or general location included
  • Special requirements mentioned (equipment, access, pets, timing)
  • Urgency marked only when genuinely needed
